Both composite veneers and porcelain veneers can transform your smile, but they differ in important ways:

• Material & aesthetics: Porcelain is more translucent and lifelike; composite is slightly more opaque, so it may look less “glassy” than porcelain.
• Durability: Porcelain veneers typically last around 10-15 years, while composite veneers generally last about 3-5 years, and in many studies up to 5-7 years with good care.
• Stain resistance: Composite is more prone to staining and surface wear than porcelain, so it may need more frequent polishing.
• Tooth preparation: Composite often requires little or no enamel reduction, while porcelain usually requires more structurally sound preparation.
• Cost: Composite veneers are typically less expensive per tooth than porcelain veneers, especially in the UK/USA.

There are two main types:

• Direct composite veneers: The dentist sculpts the resin directly on your teeth in the clinic and hardens it with UV light. This can often be completed in a single visit.
• Indirect composite veneers: The veneers are fabricated outside the mouth (in the clinic or lab) based on your impressions, then bonded to your teeth at a later appointment.

Composite veneers are ideal for treating mild to moderate aesthetic issues, such as:

For heavily damaged, rotated, or missing teeth, crowns or implants may be more suitable than veneers.

On average, composite veneers last around 3-5 years, and with excellent oral hygiene and habits, they can reach 5-7 years.

However, compared to porcelain, composite is:

• More likely to chip or wear over time
• More prone to staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking

Because of this, composite veneers are often seen as a short- to medium-term solution, while porcelain is preferred for long-term smile makeovers.

Key benefits of composite veneers include:

From a clinical point of view, composite veneers have several limitations:

• Higher staining risk – surface roughness and material properties make them more susceptible to discoloration.
• Less artistic translucency – the material is more opaque, so it can look less natural than high-end porcelain (like Emax).
• Lower durability – greater risk of chipping and wear, especially in patients who clench or grind.
• More maintenance – may require regular polishing or periodic replacement sooner than porcelain.

A typical composite veneer procedure includes:

1. Consultation & planning – smile analysis, photos, and X-rays if needed; discussing your expectations, tooth colour, and shape.
2. Minimal preparation – light contouring or roughening of the enamel to help bonding (in many cases, only very small enamel reduction is needed).
3. Bonding & sculpting – tooth-coloured composite resin is layered onto the teeth and carefully shaped.
4. Curing – each layer is hardened with a UV light.
5. Finishing & polishing – the veneers are adjusted for bite and polished to a smooth, glossy, natural surface.

Depending on how many teeth are treated, this can often be completed in one visit, especially for 4-8 front teeth.

This depends on your smile line, how wide you smile, and your aesthetic goals:

• For subtle enhancement, 2-4 veneers on the most visible front teeth may be enough.
• For a broader smile change (similar to a mini “Hollywood smile”), patients often choose 6-10 veneers on the upper front teeth.

In your treatment planning, we usually simulate different options and aim for the minimum number of veneers that still achieve a balanced, harmonious result.

Compared with many other restorations, composite veneers are considered relatively conservative and partially reversible:

• Often, little enamel is removed, and the composite can be taken off and replaced if needed.
• However, any enamel removed does not grow back, so there is always some degree of irreversibility.

To extend the lifespan of composite veneers, we recommend:

• Brushing twice daily with a soft brush and using floss or interdental brushes
• Limiting strongly staining drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, dark sauces) and smoking
• Avoiding habits like nail biting, opening packages with teeth, or chewing ice
• Wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth
• Attending regular professional cleanings and polishing, usually every 6 months, or more often if you are prone to staining

Good maintenance can significantly reduce the need for early repairs or replacements.

Composite veneers typically cost between €150 and €300 per tooth in Turkey, making them a more budget-friendly option than porcelain veneers. By comparison, composite veneers in the UK often cost around £200–£300 per tooth, while in the USA prices commonly range from $950 to $1,500 per tooth. For this reason, many patients find Turkey significantly more cost-effective for this type of cosmetic treatment.

Not always. Composite veneers may not be ideal if you have:

• Severe crowding or rotation of teeth
• Very large fillings or fractures requiring full crowns
• Active gum disease or untreated tooth decay
• Heavy bruxism (teeth grinding) without protection
