• Bar-retained overdentures: a metal bar connects the implants, and the denture clips onto the bar for strong, evenly distributed support.
• Locator / ball-attachment overdentures: each implant has a small locator or ball head; the denture has matching housings that snap on and off.
• Fixed full-arch implant bridges (All-on-4 / All-on-6): often grouped with “implant-supported dentures” but not removable by the patient; these are screw-retained, fixed full-arch bridges.

A typical workflow for implant-supported dentures is:

• Consultation & 3D imaging – assess bone, plan implant positions.
• Implant surgery – place 2-4 (sometimes more) implants per arch under local anaesthesia.
• Healing phase – implants integrate with bone over about 3-6 months, sometimes with a temporary denture worn during this period.
• Attachment connection & impressions – locator/bar components are placed, and detailed impressions or scans are taken.
• Denture fabrication & fitting – the final overdenture is crafted to snap securely onto the implants, then adjusted for comfort and bite.

Implant-supported overdentures are removable by the patient – you snap them on during the day and remove them at night for cleaning. They still feel much more secure than standard dentures because they lock onto the implants.

Daily care routine:

• Remove dentures and brush them gently with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive cleaner

• Clean around implant abutments, bars or locators with a soft brush and, if advised, interdental brushes

• Soak the overdenture in water or a denture cleaning solution overnight

• Brush your gums, tongue and any remaining teeth twice a day

• Visit your dentist every 6–12 months (or as advised) for professional cleaning, fit check, and replacement of worn attachments

With consistent maintenance, your implants and overdentures can remain comfortable and functional for many years.

Lower jaw cases are especially common because conventional mandibular dentures are often unstable; adding 2–4 implants makes a dramatic difference in comfort and function.
