FAQ

How many appointments do I need for veneers?

Generally, 3 to 4 appointments are needed.

The first appointment is for the examination, consultation (Discussion on your requests about the shape, size, and color of your veneers), x-ray, deciding on the final treatment plan, and eventually preparation of the teeth, taking the impression and putting your temporary veneers on.
The second appointment is rehearsal. The doctor and ceramist check your veneers together with you and get your feedback about the shape, size, and color. We make sure you are happy, not 99%, but 100%, with your veneers; so, every feedback from your side is valuable during the rehearsal appointment. When you are pleased and satisfied with the final look of your laminate veneers, they are ready to be fitted.
The third appointment is for fitting the veneers permanently. This procedure requires meticulous work and takes time. Therefore, local anesthesia is applied beforehand for your comfort. The veneers are carefully fitted one by one, leaving enough contact between the veneers to enable the flossing.
The fourth appointment is for final checks and controls, making sure you are all comfortable with your bite after you test your new teeth on eating.
Depending on the size of the treatment and your appointment schedule, second & third, or third & fourth appointments can be combined on the same day. Also, please be aware that we are doing something customized with your teeth. Therefore, the number and duration of the appointments might change. In the end, our team strives to reach the perfect result.

What materials do you use for laminate veneers?

EMAX, the best.

There are different brands of Laminate Veneers in cosmetic dentistry. Maltepe Dental Clinic uses E.max© Laminate Veneers since it is the most durable and the most aesthetic material in cosmetic dentistry. EMAX is the brand. There are also Vita Sprutiny or GC Veneers. However, according to our ceramists’ experience with the materials, E.max© Laminate Veneers is the best option.

Can all the treatments be completed in one visit?

It depends on your treatment needs.

As explained above for the veneer or dental crown treatments, you need a couple of appointments, generally a one-week visit. For implants, you need two separate visits to our clinic: First one for the implants, then after 3 months, the second one for the dental crowns. In some cases, if additional bone grafting and sinus lift operations are needed, this number of visits may be increased to three or more.

Do you have an in-house lab?

Yes, we do.

We have an in-house laboratory, and we employ the most talented and experienced ceramists in the city. According to our experience, effective dentist-ceramist-patient coordination and communication is the key to reach the perfect result. Hence, our powerful in-house lab is one of the most significant factors, making our clinic exclusive.

Why should I care about an in-house lab?

Because it’s one of the most critical things in cosmetic dentistry.

Most of the clinics outsource their laboratory work, meaning that they don’t have an in-house lab and send out the impressions to other laboratories to get the veneers designed. Therefore, there is a certain distance between the dentists and ceramists, and any change needs after the rehearsals take a long time to be completed, and let’s hope that ceramist understood correctly what the dentist tried to fix. Hence, having two different entities for the procedure brings a lack of coordination and may result in unsatisfactory work.

At our clinic, thanks to our in-house laboratory, the doctors and ceramists work in close coordination. The smile designers and ceramists are with you at the dentist’s office so that we ensure all your demands are noted and fulfilled at the end. At our in-house laboratory, we can make any changes instantly for your veneers.

Some dentists have production machines at the clinic without employing a ceramist. Owning only a device means that the device produces the end result. This could be catastrophic since any change request by the patient is impossible to meet, and the result will probably lack the aesthetic touches done by the ceramist. We believe the dentist should do the dentist’s job, and ceramist should do the ceramist job.

Is there any aesthetic difference between a dental crown and laminate veneers?

Yes and no.

There is no difference between an EMAX crown (Full Veneer) and EMAX veneer, the same materials, and the same look.
There is a general misunderstanding among patients about the aesthetics of Dental Crowns. Most of the patients think that dental crowns look less aesthetic than Laminate Veneers. In fact, it is only a misperception. Indeed, some of the dental crowns do not look aesthetic since most of the dental labs do not have the right experience or time to make aesthetic dental crowns. Most of the dental labs are capable of doing dental crowns but not Laminate Veneers because it is a relatively simple and more straightforward process to produce a dental crown. However, to achieve an aesthetic and perfect result in Dental Crowns or Full Veneers, more time and artistic touches are needed, just like the time required for Laminate Veneers. This way, dental crowns can be done as aesthetic as Laminate Veneers. Unfortunately, not every lab is capable of achieving aesthetic results with dental crowns. That is why we have an in-house lab. Our experienced ceramists are the best in Istanbul and work as artists to create the most aesthetic Dental Crowns, Full Veneers, and Porcelain Laminate Veneers.

Which dental crown type is the best in aesthetics and durability?

EMAX and Zirconium crowns.

For the front teeth, we highly recommend EMAX or Zirconium Crowns. However, for the back teeth, or your crown bridges, you will need more durability and strength with your crowns. Therefore, we highly recommend zirconium crowns for the molar teeth.

Do veneers stain or discolor?

No, they don’t.

The materials we use for laminate veneers are not prone to discoloration in time, do not hold stains, and preserve their original color permanently. Please do not confuse the quality of E.max© Laminate Veneers with the composite veneers. Composite veneers do stain easily and discolor quickly. That is why we do not apply any composite veneers even if requested.

Do you do non-prep veneers?

Yes, we do, but not for everyone.

Your teeth and lip position should be eligible for the non-prep veneers. They are only applicable for patients who already have small teeth and have some gaps in between their teeth. If you already have regular-sized straight teeth, it is probably not possible for you to get non-prep veneers. Because without filing down, applying veneers will make your teeth look much bigger, which will not be an aesthetically excellent result.

What's the difference between a dental crown and a laminate veneer?

In short, front vs. all around.

Laminate veneers are applied to the front surface of the teeth while dental crowns cover the teeth all around. That means for the veneers, the teeth are filed down from the front surface and the tips only as necessary. While for the dental crowns, the teeth are filed down all around, in other words, 360 degrees. So, preparations for a dental crown will make your natural teeth smaller than preparations for veneers. Additionally, the materials used for crowns and veneers differ. For veneers, we use porcelain material (not composite). For the dental crowns we have the EMAX, Zirconium, or metal-ceramic options, any of which can be applied depending on your specific case.

What’s the lifetime for EMAX veneers and full veneers?

Longer than you expect.

The first thing to remember is that the things that are harmful to your natural teeth are also harmful to your veneers, and everything you do to care for your natural teeth is also applicable to your veneers. The lifetime of laminate veneers depends on the quality of the work by the dentist and the laboratory, as well as how you protect them and do the after-care. Once properly done at our clinic, all you need to do is daily dental care and protection and regular dental check-ups. Brushing, flossing and paying attention to your gum health ensures that your veneers last in the long-term. The main reason causing the veneers to chip or crack is teeth grinding. If you don’t have such a problem, your veneers should be safe. If you have such issues, we also provide you a nightguard to protect your EMAX Laminate Veneers from grinding, thus extending its lifetime.

Some patients come to our clinic to change their 25 years old veneers/full veneers; however, there are also some patients who get their veneers chipped in a short time who do not wear night guard regularly while sleeping. Please remember whatever is harmful to your original teeth are also harmful to your Lamine Veneers such as biting things with their hard shells (nuts etc.) and doing intense sports (boxing, kick-boxing, etc.)

From the material perspective, we ensure that you have the most durable and strong materials for your veneers. At our clinic, we use EMAX material by Ivoclar for making E.max© Laminate Veneers. EMAX is known to be the most durable glass-ceramic material available for Laminate Veneers in the field of dentistry.

What’s the lifetime for zirconium crowns?

Long enough to worth it.

Similar to the veneers, the first thing to remember is that the things that are harmful to your natural teeth are also harmful to your dental crowns. And everything you do to care for your natural teeth is also applicable to your dental crowns. The lifetime of zirconium crowns depends on the quality of the work by the dentist and the laboratory, as well as how you protect them and do the after care. Once properly done at our clinic, all you need to do is routine dental care and protection, and regular dental check-ups. Brushing, flossing and paying attention to your gum health ensures that your zirconium crowns last for years. The main reason causing the zirconium crowns to chip or crack is teeth grinding. If you don’t have such a problem, your dental crowns are safe. If you have such issues, we use specials designs at our laboratory for your zirconium crowns to reduce this kind of risk, and we also provide you a nightguard to protect your dental crowns during the night from grinding.

Some patients come to our clinic to change their decades-old zirconium crowns; however, there are also some patients who get their zirconium crowns cracked or chipped in a short period since they did not wear their night guards regularly while sleeping. Please remember whatever is harmful to your original teeth are also harmful to your Zirconium Crowns such as biting things with their hard shells (nuts etc.) and doing intense sports (boxing, kick-boxing, etc.)

What’s your guarantee for EMAX veneers and zirconium crowns?

Please visit our guarantee policy webpage to check the details.

Is getting veneers a painful procedure?

Simply, no, it’s not.

At our clinic, all of the procedures are conducted under local anesthesia. Patients don’t feel anything while the dentist prepares the teeth. Local anesthesia is used only for the first appointment and the last one when the veneers are being fixed permanently. Between these two appointments, we also make temporary veneers for you so that you don’t feel any pain or sensitivity during eating and drinking.

Can I get full narcosis during the procedure?

Unfortunately, not.

Full narcosis is not possible during the procedure. For dental work, the patient must be conscious, be able to move his/her mouth & tongue, and follow the dentist’s instructions. However, upon the patient’s request, we can apply sedation during the first procedure, which complies with the abovementioned needs while providing a much more comfortable session for the patient. Sedation is generally preferred by patients, having an enormous dental fear. We must mention that local anesthesia is more than sufficient, quite easy, and comfortable for the majority of our patients. If not, our special sedation technique applied by our experienced anesthesiologist is always available. Please inform us of your request about the sedation technique before you arrive in Turkey.

As Maltepe Dental Clinic, we believe full anesthesia is not the healthiest and safest method to use for dental treatment. Unless it is essential under certain conditions, we highly recommend avoiding to get full anesthesia.

How much will my teeth be filed down for the laminate veneers?

Only as necessary.

The amount of filing down totally depends on your specific case. For instance, if you already have straight and healthy teeth, 1 mm filing down from the front would be enough. But, if you already have misaligned, misshaped, or unhealthy teeth (such as teeth which have fillings, discoloration, etc.), the amount of filing down can vary. Also, if you already have very small teeth and gaps between, you can even get non-prep veneers without any filing down.

Do the veneers fall?

Not common at our clinic.

Veneers generally do not fall. If the patient is grinding the teeth, veneers might chip a little but the whole veneer falling is extremely rare. The amount of filing down and the process of fitting them by special adhesives are the most critical parts of the treatment. The expertise and experience of the dentist, the quality of work by the laboratory, and the material used to bond the veneers all play essential factors to achieve the best result.

Do the veneers break?

Generally, they don’t, but they might be cracked or chipped.

As explained in the lifetime question for the veneers, they are not expected to break. Still, there might be chipping or cracking issues with your laminate veneers if you don’t pay attention to your dental care and protection, especially if you have teeth-grinding problems and neglect using a night guard while sleeping.

Why are you more affordable than my local dentist? Am I compromising on quality?

No, you are not compromising on quality. Indeed, you are getting the highest quality treatment.

We understand your concern about the quality level of treatment abroad since prices are up to 70% cheaper at our clinic. And the quality of the procedure is the same or better than your local clinic. Here is why? ¬ ¬
• The cost of living is cheaper in Turkey. Thus, labor cost is lower, including the dentists’ wages.
• Rents and utilities are more reasonable, significantly reducing the fixed cost of the clinics.
• Tax rates are lower in Turkey, especially for dental clinics compared to the rates in Europe or North America.
• Conversely, we claim that you will get a better-quality treatment at our clinic. Here is why:
• We are utilizing the highest technologies not available to your local dentist.
• Our team of ceramists and dentists are highly experienced in aesthetic and implant treatments since we do this every day. The number of crowns/veneers done by one of our dentists per month would probably exceed the number of crowns/veneers done by your local dentist in her whole career.
• Dentistry is a highly regarded career in Turkey. Therefore, the smartest and most talented students become dentists and doctors in Turkey. Also, our dentistry schools are state of the art, attracting students from all over the world.

What are the implants made of?

Titanium.

Dental implants are made of a titanium material, which is scientifically proven to be the best material compatible with the jawbones for a permanent solution. All implant brands give a lifetime guarantee for this material. There are also some materials used for implants, such as ceramic implants. At our clinic, we use titanium implants as they proved their durability over the years.

Who qualifies for dental implants?

All patients who have missing teeth can get dental implants.

If you are healthy and do not bear the risk of getting an infection or bleeding due to chronic illness, you are qualified for dental implant treatment. Furthermore, your jaw bone should be eligible and fully developed for this treatment. If necessary, we also build up your jaw bone by applying bone grafting.

Which implant brands do you use?

Only the best brands.

You will be using the implants most probably for a lifetime. Therefore, high-quality implants will make a difference in the long run. Our doctors only use selected brands that are FDA approved and have been clinically tested for years. Our implant brands are Straumann Roxolide (Switzerland), Anyridge by Megagen (South Korea), Hiossen (USA), and ICX (Germany). All of them are very well-known brands worldwide and proved their quality in the field of dentistry.

What’s the difference between the implant brands?

Quality, reputation and reliability.

Every implant brand in the market has a name and reputation. Therefore, they have a different level of experience and degrees of reliability in the dentistry world. The brands which have proven their quality and reliability for a long time are considered as the best implant brands in the world, and they eventually have a very high success rate.

How many times do I need to visit Istanbul, Turkey, for implant treatment?

For implants, you need two separate visits to our clinic.

The first one is for the implant operation. Then, in 3 months, you will need to come for a dental crown fitting procedure. In some cases, if additional bone grafting and sinus lift operations are required, this number of visits may be increased to three or more. When we see your x-ray, we can inform you better about the number of visits and the duration of each stay needed.

What is the difference between a dental bridge and an implant treatment?

They are two different methods of treatment.

A dental bridge is an alternative treatment for missing teeth. Dental bridges look aesthetically the same or even better as the implant treatment in the end. However, dental bridges require neighboring teeth to be filed down since these teeth are used as the supporting pillars for the bridge. An implant is an individual solution, a titanium screw is placed into the jawbone as an artificial root, and then a single crown is fitted on this implant.
On implant treatment, there is no need to file down the neighboring teeth. Therefore, we recommend having an implant treatment if your bone structure is eligible for it.

Do you have an in-house lab?

Yes, we do.

We have an in-house laboratory, and we employ the most talented and experienced ceramists in the city. Will I be toothless during the implant treatment period?

No, you won’t.

If you come to our clinic for implant treatment, we provide a temporary solution depending on your case after placing the implant. In some cases, it is recommended to keep the implant area blank. In some cases, we can do partial prostheses or temporary crown bridges. The best decision about the temporary solution is made at the clinic by our dentists. You can be sure that if it’s possible to make a temporary solution during your waiting period for the implant treatment, it will be applied.

Is Dental Implant Procedure Painful?

No.
Dental implant procedure at our dental clinic in Turkey, also at your local clinics, is a short medical treatment and is generally performed under local anesthesia without any pain. When the effect of the anesthesia goes away after several hours, every patient might feel little pain. By taking painkillers, you will experience painless recovery in several days.

Can I get full narcosis during the procedure?

How long does the teeth bleaching last?

Between 6-12 months.

The effectiveness of the laser teeth whitening depends on your consumption of colorful drinks as well as the structure of your teeth. If you are a smoker, you can expect the whitening to lose its effectiveness in a very short period of time. For some patients, the bleaching can last up to a year, while for some others, depending on the nature of the teeth, consumption of colorful drinks, and smoking, the bleaching effect might disappear in a shorter time.
